Windows to the World – Press Release

Ubium invites you to view their new temporary exhibit

Windows to the World’
@

Joensuu Market Hall, Finland
March 2016

In recent years, the Finnish national budget assigned to education has been in constant decline. This reduction has had a detrimental effect on research and development of different fields including the Arts and Culture. Simultaneously, we live in an era where the Western economy has seen the demise of its manufacturing industry and is becoming more and more reliant on the growth innovation can bring. Many organizations are trying to redress this issue by encouraging innovation through competitions. Ubium believes innovation through collaboration could be as, if not more, effective a starting point. Especially now when global networks mean social interaction has no borders.

Ubium, a ‘start up’ company based in Joensuu, is committed to innovating new ways of learning and creating, playfully, through the help of technology. Their focus has revolved around the use of cross cultural themes as a trigger for research and development. Inspiration, curiosity and motivation to learn are activated and encouraged within a given time structure towards a specified goal. Good communication and transferable skills being essential to a successful and meaningful outcome.

Windows to the World – is a non-funded public art project, presented freely to the people of Joensuu. They can listen to music, look at photographs, read our story and reflect on the composition’s message. They can also test their memory skills through an interactive sound and light game by touching the sensors on the outside of the two windows.

Ubium and all partners/sponsors have contributed their time, resources and expertise freely towards the realization of this idea. Contributors originate from Finland, Mexico, Germany, America and the UK. A full list of names/companies can be found on the QR next to the exhibit.

2. Bullaugenblues exhibition by LE4EL – a simple story about the exhibition

On  Sunday 7.12. while finalizing our rather simple sample of the story-quiz  for Christmas, we were communicating with our friends from LE4EL in Germany.

They are preparing their exhibition entitled: Bullaugenblues. The exhibition is related to the recent demolition of the Yellow Submarine, which is a fascinating story. If you are interested to know more about this, follow the  facebook page about the Yellow Submarine in Munich.

Then we came with the idea, why not to explore how we can support active photographers in their pursuits. We talked briefly what message they wanted to give in their exposition, we aimed to understand the location and the history, and even that our week 50 was very busy, we managed to offer them a tool to complement their exposition with the audience.

This simple Bullaugenblues story for LE4EL, is better experienced if you are looking at the photos in the exhibition. But we might elaborate a follow up version once the exhibition is closed.

Wish you all the success to the team of LE4EL in their exhibition.

If you have any comment of the exhibition or about this brief story, please feel free to write it in this blog post or with the photographers in here.

1. Homemade Christmas: a story-quiz for you

On Friday 5.12. we visited the Pohjois-Karjalan MuseoNote: They have happy hour on Fridays from 3 to 5 pm.

In the section of temporal expositions there is an area reserved for a Christmas exposition. Thankfully the museum has a good service, because as a result of Sami’s suggestion we visited and understood the richness of this particular display. Unfortunately, there is not English text in this section.

But after have the good guidance, and experience the message of the expositors we decided to offer a contribution. Then we build a story-quiz of the exposition.  Note: it is better seen on a mobile device!

You are invited to go through our  story-quiz . You will get most out of it, if you are in the exposition, of course!

If you want to leave a comment on how do you prepare a homemade Christmas, you are welcome to write in this post!

Why do we want to have a SECOND blog?

If having one blog is challenging enough, who wants to have more than one?

However, while walking the path to build ubium, we realized the need to offer two distinctive types of information to world outside of our HQ: news and blog.

News: focuses on milestones ubium has achieved, e.g. events we have assisted, produced videos, report of trips, etc.  Note for the records: before today, this section used to be our blog, but to be pragmatic, in here we announce milestones.

Blog: is a free space to share how we suggest how our thinking approach, together with our platform can be used. We will be creating stories, games, whatever we found in the way to experiment and share with others.

Due that we are a startup learning all from scratch,  our blog is, at the moment, hosted by wordpress.  Note2 for the records: if you are a startup, use all the tools you have available  to minimize costs (human and of capital).

Looking forward to fill this blog with contextual games and applications to share with everybody! Note3 for the records: Honestly that is the MAIN GOAL of this blog, come from ideas to practice!
